Become a Business Adviser

Young Enterprise Scotland’s Company Programme is a unique opportunity for young people to take a business idea from concept to reality. They discover first-hand, how a real company operates and through this year long entrepreneurial experience, they develop key employability skills which can be used as persuasive evidence for work, college and university applications.

Company Programme is supported by volunteer advisers from the business world and the local community. By becoming a business adviser you would be there to meet with the young people, share knowledge, experience, and to support & guide them. It is not your job to run the company - your role is to help keep them focused and motivated.

The young people elect a board of directors, raise capital, create and develop a product or service, make profits, and gain yet more notoriety and strengths by competing in the illustrious Young Enterprise Scotland Company of the Year Awards at the end of it.

Our volunteers have experience which cuts across every sector of the economy. They are in employment, entrepreneurs, business owners, stay-at-home parents, on a career break or retired. They have one thing in common: a desire to pass on their skills and experience to inspire the next generation.

Becoming a Business Adviser may challenge you – but the excitement and satisfaction of mentoring, of transforming attitudes and helping young people open their eyes to the world of enterprise drives many of our volunteers to commit their time year after year.

Do you have loads of enthusiasm and around an hour a week to help local young entrepreneurs? Then get in touch!

About Us

Young Enterprise Scotland's well-known Company Programme is a business and enterprise experience for S5/S6 pupils. The pupils set-up and run their own company with support from a local business volunteer mentor. They will also develop a wide range of skills throughout the year and will be invited to attend a number of workshops hosted by local business people.

The team are challenged to set up a real company, selling a product or service to the public, with opportunities to sell at trade fairs throughout the year.  At the end of the programme (March 2017) the teams are invited to the Albert Halls, Stirling, to compete against all other local schools.
